Hand Woven Scarves

Although it's mid-summer it's time to start getting the shop ready for the winter months.

In the week I started to weave a few scarves.  I use a rigid heddle loom for the scarves I have listed, this type of loom allows me to use different yarns and techniques.

The first scarf I added to the shop is made from 3 shades of yarn fingering weight yarn in a plaid pattern.  With this scarf I let the plaid pattern do the work for the looks of this scarf.  The scarf is 69" long giving it a good length to wear in a variety of ways.

The next scarf I added today is woven using a hand-painted fingering weight yarn.  The wonderful thing about hand-painted yarn can give a faux-plaid effect or in the case of this scarf some nice pooling effect.  I chose a waffle weave pattern which gives this scarf a nice thick and soft feel.

Knitted Dish Cloths / Washcloths

When I had the idea to reopen my store I decided would offer a variety of items that I enjoy personally using.  One thing is hand-knitted dish cloths and washcloths.  I enjoy a thick textured cloth to make cleanups fast and effortless.  Another thing I feel was important to me besides being 100% cotton was to be able to care it for easily, toss in the washer then tumble dry.

While deciding on the pattern I preferred to use I did a few test knits.  I tried different size needles and different finished dimensions.  I am not bothered by the finished cloth not being square but I do like the cloth once washed to be near squared.  Nothing disappointed me more than when I finished knitting a cloth to be square to come out of the wash to be a rectangle in shape.

The best thing about doing the test knits is that I have some great new dish cloths to enjoy.

About Me and Simple Comforts

As I grew up I watched my mother knit mittens and hats to keep my hands and head warm in the long Wisconsin winters. Also I was inspired by my Grandmother's talent to create the most beautiful table cloths using crochet cotton. I don't remember when I learned to knit but it is something I can never grow sick of. I may set my needles aside from time to time but I always come back for what I sometimes call my "Needle Therapy"

As any Knitter knows you will always end up with a stash of yarn which lead me to weaving in the past couple of years. Starting with what I thought was a simple loom, rigid heddle, I soon found out the beautifully textured fabric that can be created and not too long after that I became the owner of a floor loom. I am still growing and learning the art of weaving but as I advance through this process I will be offering the best of what I create on my looms.

I learned to sew through 4-H growing up but never really enjoyed the process of sewing clothing but then I was introduced to the world of quilting. It has been several years now since I started quilting that I now produce quilts to sell through consignment at a shop in Door County Wisconsin and items  in my Etsy Shop.

Growing up in Wisconsin and now living in the Upstate of South Carolina I still enjoy the Simple Comforts that life can give and I hope you will find the items I offer bring comfort into your life.
